|Dvorak New World, Gershwin & Bernstein: BCO and Ashley Wass|
Bristol Concert Orchestra • Ashley Wass (piano) • Stefan Hofkes (conductor)
Saturday 2 March 2013, 7.30pm, St George's Bristol
Bernstein: Candide Overture • Gershwin Piano Concerto • Dvorak: Symphony No.9 'from the New World'
The overture to Leonard Bernstein's Candide provides the very lively opener for this American-themed spring concert, to be followed by the equally lively yet bluesy Piano Concerto by George Gershwin, for which we are delighted to be joined once again by the superbly talented Ashley Wass.
Dvorak's New World Symphony hardly needs introduction; it is a deserved perennial favourite of the romantic repertoire. Think not of TV ads for bread - but of forests, rivers, waterfalls, Native American dances and yearnings for Bohemia!
There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
