|Bach & the organist's daughter|
A musical diary of Bach’s gap year adventure
devised and written by David Gordon,
performed by Respectable Groove - Evelyn Nallen recorder, David Gordon harpsichord, Oli Hayhurst double bass, Tom Hooper percussion
It’s common knowledge that as a 20-year old brilliant organist, Bach walked half the length of Germany to meet the great Buxtehude in Lübeck. What happened while he was there is less well documented.
Bach and the organist’s daughter is a semi-dramatised musical account of his adventures, featuring some of the folk tunes he learned which inspired his work, including the Goldberg Variations, a recreation of the young Bach’s ‘audition’, his encounter with the woman in question, and the musical backdrop to an extraordinary and formative episode in Bach’s life.
