Lend Me A Tenor
Rickmansworth Players will be producing ‘Lend Me A Tenor‘ a comedy by Ken Ludwig at the Pump House Theatre on May 1st – 5th 2012. The play is a ‘smart and inventive farcical comedy’ where the understudy becomes an overnight star in one of show-business’s best loved stories. When, in 1934, the fate of a charity concert in Cleveland, Ohio is in jeopardy because the Italian tenor hired to sing the lead has fallen into a drunken stupor and is presumed dead, the impresario’s diminutive, docile assistant, with operatic ambitions, blacks up and wins acclaim as Othello. The tenor awakens, dons his costume and thence follows a hilarious comedy of confusion in which the two Moors are absurdly confused by swooning females. Add a volatile Italian wife, an outrageous bellhop and a cynical impresario and you have a recipe to rival the classic farces.
