Aylesbury Opera presents a Nelly Miricioiu Masterclass
Aylesbury Opera is delighted to host a masterclass led by AO's patron and internationally renowned soprano Nelly Miricioiu. The event will be held at Aylesbury Music Centre on Saturday 2nd February from 2pm.
Nelly Miricioiu left her native Romania in 1981 and soon established herself as one of the most versatile sopranos in opera. Her repertoire extends from Mozart and bel canto to Verdi, Puccini and verismo, to modern Italian opera such as Respighi and Zandonai, and taking in French and Russian composers too. As Rodney Milnes wrote in Opera Magazine "...this extraordinary diva can sing anything and sing it well". Since her Covent Garden debut in 1982 as Nedda in 'I Pagliacci' opposite John Vickers, Piero Cappuccili and Thomas Allen, and the 1983 triumphant La Scala debut as Lucia di Lammermoor, Nelly has been heard in all major opera houses of the world.
For the masterclass, five of AO's young professional principal singers will work on arias with Nelly, accompanied at the piano by Kelvin Lim. Nelly brings a lifetime of insight and experience from her career and thoroughly enjoys the process of nurturing the next generation. The masterclass will feature singers performing in AO's production of Saint-Saëns' opera 'Samson et Dalila' at the Court Theatre in Tring on 28th February, 2nd and 3rd March
