Whitchurch Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (WAODS) in Shropshire was founded in 1924, with an inaugural production of ‘The Gondoliers’ at the Town Hall. We spoke to David Pearce, the society's Chairman, to find out how TicketSource supports WAODS in their productions of musicals, pantomimes and plays for the local community.

How did you start using TicketSource?

About eight years ago, we decided to start facilitating online bookings, which was something we'd never done before. But, as a registered charity and community organisation, we needed a system that would be cost effective. I came across TicketSource purely because one or two other groups in the town suggested it, so I read up on it and discovered it would fit the bill for us.

Why is the system helpful for you?

Because all ticket sales are done through TicketSource, we have accurate records with hardly any confusion. For our monthly committee meetings, I can download a sales report to present to the treasurer – this information would have taken hours to gather before, but now takes no time at all.

Previously, after each performance, we had to complete three paper records and fill out a sales sheet for the venue, so it's made a big difference. We also pushed for the Town Council to start using TicketSource, and now they use it for their own events at the Civic Centre. Many people like to book in person at the box office and the process takes half the time.

Do you get the support you need from TicketSource?

They've been fantastic at replying to emails and, if you ring up, there's always someone on the end of the phone. It's very helpful for getting events set up as it could be quite daunting for some people, especially the finer details like allocated seating and pricing brackets.

Would you recommend TicketSource to other event organisers?

I’m a big advocate of TicketSource, and I would definitely suggest it for an event where you’ve got a small budget – if any – and need a reliable and up-to-date electronic ticket selling system. It’s definitely the way forward, as you can absorb the cost or put the booking fee on to the tickets. It’s a no-brainer, really!
