Who Killed the Ship's Captain?.
The setting for this Murder Mystery play, written by A.P. Grozdanovic and Chris Martin, and directed by Belita Charrington, is the Passenger Lounge of "The Celebration", the flagship of the Blue Triangle Shipping Company. It is 15th July, 1912, exactly 3 months after the Titanic sank on its journey from Southampton to New York.
The ship's captain, Captain Edward Pearson, has been with the Company, loyally, for many years. Earlier this year, he had been offered the post of captain on the ill-fated Titanic. Usually affable and organised....... he's recently become distracted and irrational.
The detectives, Shirley Holmes and Dr. Witson, who appear in Acts 2 and 3, are no nonsense investigators from Scotland Yard.
The suspects are the captain's wife, Elizabeth, who is desperate for him to retire so that she can start living a life again instead of waiting for him to return from one voyage after another. And she's becoming acutely impatient. William Earnshaw is the efficient and successful Chief Officer of "The Celebration". He is anxious about his advancement and can't understand why the Captain won't ensure his promotion. He is also becoming increasingly desperate. William's wife, Catherine, is usually affable; however she too is impatient for her husband's promotion. Catherine is being torn apart by family politics. Pamela Davies is the captain's (very) personal secretary. She is a single woman who would do anything to spend more time with Edward. And Captain Pearson's evasiveness is now causing her a lot of heartache. Dr. Ian Jackson is "The Celebration's" Medical Officer. He's worked on board successfully for two years and is highly respected. he does, however, have a complicated past .......... Jack Bailey is "The Celebration's" newly appointed Steward. He is a bit of a "wheeler and dealer"........., someone who can find anything "for the right price". Jack's charming, accommodating nature has meant that he's already made a lot of friends........ but also enemies!
