Walk The Oars
Wall the Oars
Danish Storyteller Svend-Erik Engh and Scottish Musician/Singer and lead actor in the movie Dirt Road to Lafayette Neil Sutcliffe have created a story inspired by the Viking’s arrival in Scotland.
You are invited on board a Viking Longship. Hold your oars steady as the Viking Storyteller walks upon them to celebrate a victory.
Walk the Oars, Vikings in Scotland is a feast of stories, songs and poems about the meeting of two cultures very much alike. A storytelling, poetry and music performance filled with Viking tales and Nordic myths about the Vikings' arrival in Scotland. Danish storyteller Svend-Erik Engh and Scottish singer/musician Neil Sutcliffe bring you tales of meetings between Vikings and Scots men and women. They also explore how lives were lived on a longship, which have mythical importance to the Norsemen, as well as the stories about the Gods sitting in Valhalla drinking mead waiting for Ragnarök.
“I loved loved ‘Walk the Oars’ such an evocative and beautifully paced hour on the sea in a Viking ship and I’m still feeling the exhilaration of walking the oars!” – Edinburgh audience member
**** “Walk the Oars is a treasure, an ancient oasis of delight in the sea of the modern world. The whole thing is engaging and exciting, and rekindles a semi-lost fire of storytelling.” Imogen Rowe, edinburghguide.com
