Durlston Court Prep School, Durlston Court School, BH25 7AQ
Mon 22nd July 2019

Join us for 3 full days of Music.

Over the three days we will be working on different styles of music, Baroque to Jazz and beyond. This immersive environment is great for fast-tracking your child’s progress and giving them the experience and confidence to play in other ensembles.

A playing level of Grade 2 and above is advised to get the most out of the workshop, however you need not have taken the exam to come along.

Open to all orchestral instruments including saxophones.

There will be a number of specialist, experienced tutors on hand to help in the full orchestra and sectional sessions.

These tutors include:

James Rawlinson – Woodwind (Clarinet, Saxophone & Flute)
James teaches in various schools in Hampshire & Dorset as well as his own private studio in Bournemouth. James was classical trained and attended the Royal Academy of Music. He now also specialises in jazz, improvisation workshops and leading ensembles. He also started JazzSmart 10 years ago which has been running improvisation and jazz workshops with some of the UK’s leading jazz musicians ever since. You can watch him leading The Red Fez Orchestra as well as performing with various bands and ensembles in and around the U.K.

Rob Dishington - Director of Music at Durlston Court school
A music teacher with experience in primary, secondary and special education, Rob is Currently Director of Music at Durlston Court School, New Milton. He is a pianist, clarinettist and conductor who regularly performs and occasionally composes and arranges. Previously, he worked as a freelance répétiteur for Welsh National Opera, was Musical Director for the City of Cardiff Concert Band (a mainly student orchestra), and recently for the Briantspuddle Singers in Dorset. He has played and sung with various orchestras, bands and choirs including for the Bournemouth Community Gospel Choir and Wimborne Choral Society, and has taken school groups to perform at venues locally (e.g. Lighthouse, Poole) and nationally (e.g. the Royal Albert Hall). Rob currently plays piano for the Red Fez Orchestra and directs an annual choral-orchestral concert as part of the May Festival, a well-established music festival based at St. Stephen’s Church, Bournemouth.

Rebecca MacDonald – Upper Strings (Violin, Viola)
Rebecca graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a BMus (Hons) specialising in Viola. Whilst there she won first prize in the Watson Forbes Viola Competition and was invited to play with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. Rebecca is upper string specialist at two of the South’s leading independent schools and boasts an impressive record in securing high exam performance for her students, enabling music scholarships to acclaimed musical institutions, including St Swithun’s School, Winchester.
Rebecca has gained a wealth of experience within the education sector, coaching string ensembles, chamber groups and orchestras at a number of schools. Encouraging youngsters to play in orchestras is something Rebecca is passionate about, developing the next generation of classical musicians to expand and augment the music scene in the local community.

Andrew Blee – Saxophone
Andrew graduated from the University of Chichester with a Bmus (Hons) in Jazz Performance, and is currently studying for a Masters in Music Performance at The University of Southampton. Andrew spends most of his time teaching privately as well as some local prominent music schools. He co-runs JazzSmart with James Rawlinson, ensuring budding musicians gain access to some of the World’s best educators and musicians. Andrew can be seen gigging regularly with The Tom Belbin Trio and The Red Fez Orchestra.
