Glasgow Canal Project

The Glasgow Canal Festival is North Glasgow's most exciting annual festival, with a packed programme of high-quality arts, heritage, environmental and watersports activites. The festival  takes place along the banks of the iconic Forth & Clyde Canal, a 5-minute walk from Cowcaddens Subway station, and it brings the people of the local community together with audiences from across the wider city to enjoy the natural and urban landscape in this beautiful, heritage-rich part of the city.

The festival is produced by the Glasgow Canal Project, a co-operative of large and small organisations all based around the banks of the canal in North Glasgow, who each prioritise investment in and celebration of this often under-appreciated part of the city. The area is an emerging destination, home to grass-roots and national cultural organisations, cutting-edge sports activities and Scotland’s first urban nature reserve. By working collaboratively with local organisations, residents and stakeholders the Glasgow Canal Project aims to unlock the potential of the canal to create a vibrant neighbourhood for people to live, work and visit. This project is ongoing and aims to place local people and organisations at the heart of the process.
