Holmfirth Arts Festival
Holmfirth Arts Festival is an annual multi-arts event in June presenting a fresh take on the town, its history and its communities through newly commissioned work, community and participatory projects. The 2016 Festival, 17 - 26 June, follows in the footsteps of Holmfirth’s tame tiger, Fenella, with a newly commissioned song cycle from poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan and musician Luke Carver Goss, plus a rare opportunity to see family photos of Fenella and hear about the tiger at home.
Outdoor events start with a vibrant street parade and Creature Carnival on Saturday 18 June where you are welcome to join our Pop-Up Samba band! Our collaboration with Yorkshire Festival includes free outdoor performances including a wordless slack rope balancing act, Hold On, and the beauty of aerial circus in Upswing’s Show and Have a Go – with a chance for you to try your hand. Company Chameleon’s Of Man and Beast and Them Two Dance’s Random Acts of Kindness bring fearless and arresting dance to the streets – and their #RandomTandem… Keep your eyes peeled for online links to Kevin Boniface’s Recorded Delivery audio diaries and meet the poetic postman in person.
We invite you to play, by creating a circus of a different kind with Barry Russell’s John Cage-inspired Holmfirth Circus and to come into the woods to see the return of the popular Art in the Woods in beautiful Holme Styes, and vote for your favourite artwork.
Holmfirth’s own Edinburgh fringe winner Kieran Hodgson makes a triumphant return home with ‘Lance’, comedian Mark Steel asks you to help him find out who he is and there is top quality music from opening night party band Family Atlantica. We go out with a bang with percussionists O Duo so grab your drumsticks and follow the swallow to find us in June!
Please note that tickets for events held at the Picturedrome can also be booked via the Picturedrome website but not in person.
In the case of sold out events, we will attempt to re-sell returned tickets for you, minus a 10% handling fee.
