A modern day lifestyle heavily affected by consumerism has led to alienation, isolation and loneliness. Should we, as a society, rethink our priorities and redesign our approach to one another? Countries which promote the importance of Gross National Happiness (GNH) over Gross Domestic Product (GDP) understand the value of kindness, fairness and compassion in everyday life which in turn define the direction of policies and sustainable development. How can we ensure that compassion does indeed lie at the core of all societal systems, from the judiciary, to healthcare and education? Are Western societies too trapped in the rat race to see the benefits from reaching the finish line together?
