Retirement is often ideally presented as a period of endless freedom and lack of responsibilities. But do we ever really retire? Many now want to, or have to, keep working, volunteering, or helping family members. Is the secret of a successful retirement/ageing to pre-plan? What are the practical and financial issues to consider? How easy is it to adapt to a new pace of life? Is retirement a time when our social connections are fewer and loneliness and isolation affect us more than before, and how could we prevent that?
