This course is designed for enthusiasts, employees or if your about to start in the industry without any formal training.

The foundation course will provide the learner with a comprehensive understanding of modern tea practices, ranging from the latest trends to food pairing. After completing the course they will be able to prepare and serve teas to an excellent standard and hold enough knowledge to provide a great customer experience.

To complete and receive the Tea Smith award you will need to complete day 2.

The candidates will learn:

  • British tea drinking history
  • The importance of tea in the modern day and tea drinking culture
  • What is tea?
  • The differences between Camillia sinensis and camellia sinensis assamica
  • The distinction between White, Green and Black teas
  • Production methods
  • Flavored teas and infusions
  • Loose leaf tea v’s the tea bag
  • The basics of brewing
  • The importance of water temperature
  • Serving techniques and choosing the correct equipment
  • Tea storage
  • Food pairing basics
  • Ethical tea practices

No previous experience is required to attend this course.

The course is 1 day in duration.

Attendees will be assessed by theoretical and practical exam.

The London School of Tea recommends that everyone employed in the Tea industry should be a certified Tea Smith to ensure a standard of excellence.
