Petersfield Shakespeare Festival
The Petersfield Shakespeare Festival is a unique and enchanting outdoor theatre festival which takes place in the beautiful grounds of Bedales School, next to the 17th century Sotherington Barn, in the heart of the South Downs National Park. Now entering its 6th season it has already greatly enhanced the cultural life of the area.
The first Petersfield Shakespeare Festival took place in July 2012 when a talented team of drama professionals and local practitioners performed two full-scale Shakespeare productions. The Festival has since gone from strength to strength culminating in last year’s triumphant production of As You Like It.
Previous Seasons have seen Shakespeare’s best loved plays brought to life in imaginative ways:
2017 As You Like It, Double Will, The Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night and Romeo & Juliet
2016 The Tempest, Hamlet and A Midsummer Night's Dream
2014 The Merry Wives of Windsor and Macbeth
2013 A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet
2012 Much Ado About Nothing and Twelfth Night.
The stunning courtyard and grounds of the Sotherington Barn, which is elegantly tented for the Festival, provides a perfect space for Summer evening entertainment. Audience members are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy a drink from the Bard's Bar prior to the performance.
