South Birmingham Sinfonia

Based in Bournville, the South Birmingham Sinfonia aims to develop the musicality and ensemble skills of its members, perform a varied repertoire of music in the local community and raise funds for Birmingham St Mary's Hospice. In recent years the orchestra has grown from a small sinfonia to a full symphony orchestra, allowing it to expand its musical horizons and play increasingly exciting and challenging pieces.

Created in 1973 by tutors from the CBSO, the South Birmingham Sinfonia began as a Workers’ Educational Association evening class. In 2019, the orchestra became a registered charity (ref. 1181560).
