THE UNION STREET TOUR: ABERDEEN'S MODERN HEART

Town House, Aberdeen, AB10 1AQ
Sat 16th August 2014
Launch of the newest tour in our repertoire! Union Street represented the break with and indeed the destruction of the medieval city as it cut through the old, crowded streets and lead the way to a new development at the far side of the Denburn Valley which had once been the border of the burgh. This tour aims to show a little of what was there before, including a look at the vaults, the piers which hold up our main street, as well as explaining the fight the business community had to persuade the council to go ahead with this new development. Begins outside Aberdeen's Town House on the corner of Broad Street and Union Street, and ends at Holburn Junction near Starbucks. This tour will also be included in the Aberdeen Inspired History Showcase later this month. N.B. this tour does NOT involve going into any confined or dangerous spaces - access to the vaults under parts of Union Street would be at the total discretion of the owners/tenants. The Tunnels Night Club on Carnegie's Brae is the only place in Aberdeen you can see it for real.
