The Old Man and the Gun (2018, USA, David Lowery, 1hr 29 mins, 12A) follows the exploits of ageing career criminal, Forrest Tucker (Robert Redford) who leads a group of thieves dubbed the “over the hill” by the media. The film is based on the true story of a man who robbed banks in leisurely fashion employing a gentlemanly, polite manner but with meticulous planning and great success. Whilst being chased by the police one day, Forrest chivalrously assists kind-hearted widow, Jewel (Sissy Spacek), when her car breaks down on the side of the road and who seems to offer a chance of redemption as their romance blooms. This is reported to be 82 year old Redford’s swansong role as a film actor and the elegantly written movie delivers nostalgic, laidback entertainment well worth an evening at Filmbox.
Please Note:This event is in the Performance Hall at the earlier start time of 7.30pm and is the only screening on this date.
Before the main film, we're proud to present FILMBOX's first short film as sponsor, 'Bella's Requiem' (10 mins plus end credits), which was made by a group of students at LPSB. There will be a brief Q&A with some of the filmmakers and their teacher, Johnny Crawford. The film is currently appearing in several local and national film festivals
