Hepton Singers: Bushes and Briars

Delius Arts & Cultural Centre, Bradford, BD7 1AA
Sat 24th June 2017 7:30PM

For this concert renowned Hebden Bridge-based chamber choir the Hepton Singers are having fun with folk songs as well as supporting White Ribbon Campaign UK, a charity which has close links with local communities, and especially with Bradford College and Council. Being the adventurous choir we are we decided to explore some of the lesser-known regions of the genre, as well as one or two classics including Bushes and Briars and The Iona Boat Song.  We’ve broadened the definition of folk song to include Pseudo-Yoik by the Finnish composer Jaako Mäntyjärvi, and Thea Musgrave’s incomparable Subway Piranhas. The programme will also include a mellow arrangement of The Parting Glass by Anne Heath, one of our tenors, and three new and original folk song settings by the choir’s musical director, Alison West. Please come and support White Ribbon, hear about their important work, and have fun while you’re at it!
