From Buenos Aires to Chipping Sodbury - Tango Comes to Town!
Enjoy a night of Tango Nuevo and musical virtuosity with Carismático.
Carismático is the brainchild of Karen Street who is known as one of the UK’s leading accordionists. She was contacted by Argentinian composer and pianist, Saúl Cosentino, back in 2016 asking her to look at some of his compositions. This led Karen to create her ideal Tango band to perform his brilliant, emotionally charged compositions. She has added to the group’s repertoire with arrangements of classic Astor Piazzolla and her own creative and nuanced compositions.
Saúl Cosentino’s music offers us varied moods based on an idea different from traditional tango. At times it is descriptive and joyful, at other times, melancholic and sad, but always profound. It is an example of the best avant-garde tango of nowadays.
Astor Piazzolla (1921 – 1992) was also an Argentinian tango composer who grew up in Greenwich Village, New York. His works revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed nuevo tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music. A virtuoso bandoneonist, he regularly performed his own compositions with a variety of ensembles. Probably his most famous composition “Libertango” has been performed on numerous occasions for Chipping Sodbury Music Society and is always enjoyed.
The Band Members are: Karen Street – Accordion, Andy Tweed – Saxophone, Jonathan Taylor – Piano, Rob Millett – Percussion and Dave Manington – Bass. Join them for an exciting evening to remember.
