Cardiff Opera presents Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto
Newly-formed opera company Cardiff Opera present their inaugural production of Handel's masterpiece Giulio Cesare in Egitto. After a great battle, Julius Caesar has followed his foe, Pompey, into Egypt. In an ill-thought attempt to please Cesar, the Egyptians murder Pompey to the horror of Pompey's wife, Cornelia, and his son, Sesto. Meanwhile, Cleopatra decides to use her beauty to seduce Cesar to help defeat her brother, Tolemeo. After Cesar pledges his loyalty to Cleopatra, Sesto challenges Ptolemy to a duel in order to avenge the memory of his father.
The brilliant cast and production team is assembled from young professionals studying at or recently graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Wales International Academy of Voice.
