Two plays presented by the Dewsbury Arts Group Youth Classes
A new play by Matthew Bailey
The world has moved on. The old ones left warnings and riddles but little else and humanity survives through a new dark age. Berreg has always fought to protect her people’s freedom but when her niece trespasses on Paraedian land the threat of war and slavery soon falls on the village. The consequences will be felt beyond the village and right to the heart of the mighty Paraedian empire. Will the new Lady of the Eastern province succeed in ruling the world or will the shadow of the past intervene?
Goodnight Children Everywhere
By David Foxton
Britain is at war. The fate of the world hangs in the balance as Christmas approaches the biggest concerns are about who’s playing who in the Nativity and whether keeping jam butties in a gas mask box is a crime or not. To make matters worse the village has been “invaded” by children from the city evacuated in the face of the Nazi bombardment. Now there are two of every role and the rival “kings” “shepherds” and “Marys” begin to act out their own version of the wider conflict. The Vicar’s solution of doubling roles doesn’t help – not least due to lack of costumes – and the resulting Nativity production becomes even more confused. Can they work together to succeed?
