Nat Steele Quintet
Fresh from the release of his Portrait of the MJQ and subsequent tour with that band, vibraphonist Nat Steele has put together a new project called the Nat Steele Quintet, featuring the music of some his favourite influences.
For this concert, he will be playing a selection of Harold Land compositions from Land’s classic album West Coast Blues. Land came to prominence initially as a tenor player at the forefront of the nascent hard-bop movement in the Clifford Brown / Max Roach Quintet in the mid-50s.
Nat will also be interspersing the programme with tunes by Montgomery, Cedar Walton, Charlie Parker, and Bud Powell.
Joining Nat in his new quintet is special guest, drummer Mark Taylor who comes all the way from New York and has played with many significant figures in the history of jazz, like Ray Brown, Benny Green and Al Haig. Mark is regarded by many musicians as one of the great drummers of the day.
