Barry Jenkins | USA | 2018 | 119m | 15
Director Jenkins follows up his award winning ‘Moonlight’ with a truly superb love story based on the novel by James Baldwin. In early 1970s Harlem, wife-to-be Tish vividly recalls the passion, respect and trust that have connected her and her artist fiancé Fonny. Friends since childhood, the devoted couple dream of a future together, but their plans are derailed when Fonny is arrested for a crime he did not commit.
How this wasn't nominated in the Best Film category at this year's BAFTA Awards we just don't know. In our view, a far, far better film than 'Moonlight'.
