Rendcomb College pupils are set to take to the stage this December in Les Misérables, the School Edition.
Les Misérables will be a semi-staged performance and will be the first musical held in the new theatre at Rendcomb College to utilise all the technical features the venue offers, including its high-specification lighting and sound equipment and the orchestra pit. The 350-seat, state-of-the-art performance venue opened its doors in February and has already hosted a range of events such as the school’s Speech Day, classical music concerts and Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
Based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo, the heart-wrenching musical follows Prisoner Jean Valjean, in 19th Century France, as he breaks parole to establish a new life for himself, while evading the grasp of Inspector Javert. The 2012 film featured a star cast including Hugh Jackman, Russel Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried in the title roles and won multiple Golden Globe, Oscar and BAFTA awards.
The musical features many well-known songs such as On My Own, One Day More, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and I Dreamed a Dream. This production will be performed entirely by students.
