The Jazz Cave Presents - Rob Terry Trio 'The Greatness of Gershwin'
“Who needs an orchestra when you have the Rob Terry Trio” - Annie’s jazz.
George Gershwin’s music straddled both the classical and jazz worlds of music in the 1920s and 1930s. He was admired by classical heavyweights such as Boulanger and Ravel and he was the darling of music theatre in the USA and Europe. His almost timeless pieces have been played by orchestras and jazz ensembles ever since and it’s some of the most famous of these that Rob Terry has so eloquently arranged for piano, bass and drums. Pieces such as An American In Paris, I Loves You Porgy, Summertime, Rhapsody in Blue and I Got Rhythm. Mr Terry has cleverly managed things so that much of the original texture of orchestral pieces shines through and jazz improvisation is woven throughout familiar chord sequences to create a thoroughly recognisable yet fresh concert of music that shines and shimmers from start to finish.
This is Rob’s regular trio featuring bassist Paul Jefferies and drummer Charlie Stratford. The trio played together for nearly 10 years and the musical empathy that passes between them is a joy to behold……
