The Jazz Cave Presents - The Batchelor / Henderson Quartet
Our first double ‘header’: Two top level soloists play together for added oomph! Clarinet maestro Duncan Batchelor is renowned as a player with a highly developed sense of swing and a fabulous tone. His reputation as a great player was honed whilst he worked with the pioneers of British Hot Club Swing jazz - Diz Disley and Ian Cruickshank and he combines a professional commercial career with performing at jazz venues and festivals throughout Europe and beyond. Duncan plays a variety of reed instruments but specialises on the fiendishly difficult clarinet. Stuart Henderson has visited ted the club before with his own excellent modern jazz quartet so his reputation as a great front man precedes him. In a previous life with the military, he was one of Her Majesty’s ceremonial trumpeters but it’s a as a jazz trumpeter that he has earned his viable reputation. Whilst this evening’s repertoire will focus on traditional and early swing - Stuart is equally at home playing the music of the New Orleans Dixie Land greats as he is laying down groovy lines with his funk and contemporary ensembles. Joining this exquisite pairing will be two masters of rhythm - Jez Cook on guitar and Pau Jefferies on double bass.
