Fiddler on the Roof is set in the village of Anatevka in Czarist Russia, where a poor Jewish dairyman, Tevye, contends with marrying off three of his daughters while growing anti-Semitic sentiment threatens his village.
The most successful musical of its time, running for over 3,000 performances on Broadway, it is the source of several musical theatre standards, including Sunrise, Sunset, If I Were a Rich Man and Matchmaker, Matchmaker.
