Pretty in Pink is one of the most quintessential and iconic teen films of all time. Starring the original teen queen Molly Ringwald and written by John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off), whose work served as the creative inspiration behind a whole wave of films throughout the 1980s and beyond. Pretty in Pink is not only a certified cult classic but also an essential staple for fans of the genre.
High school student Andie, an outcast from the wrong side of the tracks, spends her days dodging preppy cliques and bullies, hanging out with her best friend Duckie (who is not-so-secretly in love with her), working at a new wave record store and most importantly, crafting her own unique fashions out of whatever she can lay her hands on. Andie’s senior year takes an unexpected turn when she attracts the attention of Blane, a popular rich kid who seems to ignore the social pressures of his friends.
A classic girl meets boy tale ensues with a witty script, excellent soundtrack, plenty of nostalgic teen awkwardness and, of course, the ubiquitous teen movie prom.
We will be keeping the bar open late, playing all the best 80s jamz and hosting a lip-syncing competition for those brave enough to throw down their best Try a Little Tenderness.
The Forever Young Film Club are a film collective determined to celebrate and reappraise classic coming-of-age and teen films, while also exploring lesser known gems through regular screenings and events.
Pretty in Pink screens as part of Scalarama (1-30 September 2018), a celebration of cinema, for everyone, by everyone, taking place across the country every September.
