FaNk FuNk Its FriDay - Cayenne
With a ferociously energetic six-piece rhythm section playing alongside fabulous horns and vocals, Cayenne instantly set audiences' and musicians pulses racing!
They SOLD OUT both shows the last time they played at Ronnie Scott's back in July 2017.
Originating in the Camden area of London in 1979, the band plays a uniquely British flavour of jazz-rock and Afro Cuban rhythms supporting songs and tunes written by personnel past and present with the odd cover.
In those days personnel sometimes changed nightly. But like great band leaders all over the world, to "Roberto Campoverde" aka Robert Greenfield, this didn't matter. The calibre of the finest session musicians in the country, that he was able to call upon, presented the music at the highest possible quality.
The dance floor hit "Roberto Who" made it into clubs across the world, back in the day, receiving gold discs in Mexico and Greece.
The infectious jazzy fusion they created in the 80's and later in the early 90's, helped revitalise interest in Latin music in the UK. This led to various members of the band playing on tracks and touring with many pop acts, who used latin influences in their music. These included artists, such as Wham, Madness, Haircut 100, Eurthymics, ABC, Matt Bianco, Incognito, Madonna, Eric Clapton, Elton John, George Michael and Tom Jones, to name a few.
Cayenne played many festivals, but the most memorable times were at the Ronnie Scott's Club, working with Ronnie Scott himself, Nina Simone, Marion Montgomery, Gil Scott Heron, Paquito di Rivera, Arturo Sandoval and gigs around England and Europe with Tito Puente and Celia Cruz, Machito and his Orchestra ..
