London City Airport Expansion Plans and the Opportunities for East London Businesses
This event is exclusively for businesses based in East London
Last year, London City Airport received permission to expand from the UK Government. The £350 million City Airport Development Programme (CADP) includes plans for 7 new aircraft stands, a parallel taxiway to maximise runway capacity, and a terminal extension to accommodate increasing passenger numbers. The privately funded investment is due to be completed at the end of 2021 and will enable 6.5million passengers per year to travel through the airport’s doors by 2025 and 29,000 additional flights per year.
The airport's expansion contributes to the long term economic growth of East London and creates new business opportunities for East London businesses. The construction project is due to commence in 2017 and will generate up to 2,100 jobs, with 500 jobs in the construction phase alone and 1,600 jobs once the transformation is complete. The upcoming development phase also creates opportunities for construction and procurement contracts for East London businesses.
Rachel Ness, London City Airport’s Director of Planning and Strategy and Steve Brunell, Chief Asset & Programme Officer will explain more about the development and the opportunities for local businesses during the construction phase, including how to find tendering opportunities. East London Business Place (ELBP) will also speak on support for local businesses during a tendering process.
