Schumann Cello Concerto

Beethoven Symphony no. 3 ‘Eroica’

Stravinsky looks back to Pergolesi and classical roots for his Pulcinella Suite – while Beethoven breaks free of classical constraints and makes an heroic leap into the emotional world of the Romantic movement with his Symphony no. 3, the ‘Eroica’.

Firmly in the Romantic tradition, Schumann’s cello concerto is considered, alongside the cello concertos of Dvořák and Elgar, in a group of three great Romantic works for the instrument.

"Bailey’s masterful control of the instrument and the Schumann resulted in a performance of excitement, passion, soulful lyricism and of ethereal quality." Virginia Gazette
