Part of the Sunbury & Shepperton Arts Festival 2019
This talk, copiously illustrated with slides, looks at representations of Spelthorne in art, mainly paintings but also sculpture, from the 18th century to the present. The artists, some of them world famous, and their connections with Spelthorne are discussed, as well as what the artworks can tell us about the history of the local places depicted.
Nick Pollard has been Chairman of Sunbury and Shepperton Local History Society for the past twenty-two years, as well as being Honorary Curator of Spelthorne Museum in Staines, and has a lifelong fascination with the history of the Spelthorne area.
