Led by Lonesome Chris Todd, The HardChargers are an electric power trio steeped in inspiration from a variety of sources, from the greats of pre-electric blues; Blind Willie McTell, Blind Willie Johnson and Bukka White, to early electric bluesmen such as Lightnin’ Hopkins, Howlin’ Wolf and Frankie Lee Simms.
Their live set is an electrifying reimagining of all of the above, combined with the lyricism of Chris Todd’s real-world blues and a musical language exquisitely refined from a rich melting pot of mid to late 20th century blues forms – everything from Link Wray to The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
The band released their debut album Scarecrow in 2018 and followed it up with a successful tour of England.
Since then Lonesome Chris has recorded tracks for an acoustic solo EP, and rehearsals and recording for a second Hardchargers album have begun in earnest.
‘They’re magnificent …a joyous rumblethump beat, raw and syncopated and doused in the cranky old methods of Clarksdale and Chicago’ - Stuart Bailie, BBC Radio Ulster
