Forum Books Presents The Shining Levels

We hope you will join us for an evening of live music from The Shining Levels: a musical collective put together using rural folk musicians, loops and electronics to produce a contemporary soundscape acting as a companion piece to Benjamin Myers' award winning novel The Gallows Pole.

Written and recorded on the edge of England's Northern Moors in Durham and Northumberland, evoking atmospheres of the surrounding hinterlands.

Drawing on a shared childhood and background with the author, the music explores themes from the book such as: an England divided, the mystery of remote rural landscapes, industrial progress, changing seasons, changing fortunes, self-delusion, self-aggrandisement and strange visions of mythical creatures...

"Brought in on the breeze and lifted from the soil, these songs arrive like an apparition through the moorland rain.

Their creators are faceless and their origins unknown. Adrift in time. No letter, no explanation.

No faces, no names."

Performing live at The Chapel, Corbridge, on Saturday 19th January, The Shining Levels will be joining us to perform songs from their new album ‘The Gallows Pole’, inspired by the book.

Doors will be open from 7.30pm for a 8.00pm start. Tickets are available now at £8 which includes a drink on arrival.

We hope to see you soon!
