The Norwich Society FREE lecture to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the pedestrianisation of London Street, Norwich.

Streets ahead: where next for our public spaces?

The pedestrianisation of London Street in Norwich on 17 July 1967 initiated a key change to city centre planning in the UK that continues to this day. This lecture will examine the lessons that have been learned and discuss how streets can be improved to benefit the environment for people and the economy.

  • Matthew Carmona - Professor of Planning and Urban Design at the Bartlett School of Planning 
  • David Lock - Strategic Planning Adviser at the urban design consultancy David Lock Associates;  Vice President of the Town and Country Planning Association; and President of the charity City Discovery
  • Jonathan Ellis-Miller - Associate Professor at the Norwich University of the Arts and founder and partner of EllisMiller Architects
