The April edition of the Hermon Jazz series features music performed by the beautifully haunting TalinkaQuartet!
‘Sometimes, it’s like listening to a pared-down balkanised version of Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble working through some early Piazzola. The provocative, disturbing turns on some solos are artfully balanced by the overall sense of lush restraint. It’s creative without trying too hard, and impressive throughout is the colour and control in evidence in Tali Atzmon’s voice, which bestows an emotional timbre to the band’s offering that is full of tenderness, of warmth touched with sadness.’ Sarah Chaplin - London Jazz News
Talinka is the ambitious project of Israeli-born, London-based vocalist, songwriter, actress and freelance photographer/filmmaker Tali Atzmon. She leads an eclectic collective of multi-talented musicians who, with a baroque musician in their midst, convincingly transcend the boundaries of individual styles and genres thereby creating a space where folk, early music, jazz, tango and improvisation meet to great effect. Expect original compositions with Cohen-esque undertones alongside unusual interpretations of American songbook material, arranged by internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Gilad Atzmon.
Don’t miss this exceptional blend of music and your opportunity to meet the musicians for a chat at The Hermon Bar! Please note that there will be an ‘Early Bird’ ticket offer for the first thirty tickets!
A workshop‘Finding Your Own Voice’ for singers will be held by the Talinka Quartet on Saturday, 28th April. For more details please visit our What’s On section!
