I Carried a Watermelon, followed by a screening of ‘Dirty Dancing’ (12A)
Join us for an unforgettable Festival finale.
I Carried a Watermelon is part memoir and part homage to the hit film Dirty Dancing. Comedian Katy Brand will join us in The Beacon, to explain her life-long obsession with the film and how it has influenced her own attitudes to sex, love, romance, rights and responsibilities. Her book explores the legacy of the film, from pushing women’s stories to the forefront of commercial cinema, to its fresh and powerful take on the classic ‘coming of age’ story told from a naïve but idealistic 17-year-old girl’s point of view.
This talk will be followed by a screening of ‘Dirty Dancing’ (included in ticket price). Pop-corn and drinks will be available to buy at the bar.
