Kevin Malone's musical celebration of life in West Yorkshire textile communities will receive its premiere performances throughout May 2019 around Leeds and Bradford, UK, in association with The Orchestra of Opera North. Three new pieces will be performed: "A Peterloo Parade" (a mash-up of chants and whoops from streets in the North West), "My Mill Life" using recordings of textile workers talking about their lives, and "A Day in the Life" violin concerto which examines the heartbreaking but hopeful life of a 19C boy employed in North West mills.
Kevin's music is "eclectic and imaginative, refreshingly humorous" (Los Angeles Times) while it"draws you in immediately and holds your attention. It has real energy" (The Strad). He teaches composition at the University of Manchester, and works frequently with communities and international artists. Acclaimed violinist Andy Long is featured in two pieces, and dynamic conductor Rob Guy will lead the Orchestra in an entertaining and unforgettable musical evening.
