Armistice 100: Peace
Reigate & Redhill Choral Society honours those who laid down their lives for us all in a special Armistice performance in support of The Royal British Legion.
After entering the specialist classical album charts at No.1, Karl Jenkins' The Peacemakers, sequel to world-famous hit The Armed Man, has continued to take listeners and performers by storm. Dedicated to all who have lost their lives in conflict, each of the contrasting movements extols the ideals of peace by incorporating texts from iconic world-changing figures including Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King, along with other inspirational quotes of Mother Teresa, Albert Schweitzer, Anne Frank and the Dalai Lama. Also included are religious texts from the Bible, the Qur’an, St Francis of Assisi and Bahá’u’lláh, and the poetry of Shelley, Malory, Terry Waite and Carol Barratt. The World Premier at Carnegie Hall, New York sold out and produced a standing ovation with rave reviews. Three memorable themes from renowned film composer John Williams are included in a sensitive musical montage that captures the emotion and drama of the award-winning scores to Schindler's List, Angela's Ashes, and Hymn to the Fallen (from Saving Private Ryan).
