Six Characters in Search of an Author
Luigi Pirandello, translated by Stephen Mulhine
Directed by Joe Booton
An 1921 Italian intellectual comedy, Six Characters in Search of an author was hailed at the time as a pinnacle of modernist theatre.
An acting company prepares to rehearse a play but they are unexpectedly interrupted by the arrival of six strange people; six unfinished characters in search of an author to finish their story. Comedy ensues as the characters demand that the actors play out their story in an attempt to cross over from the world of imagination into our world of the 'real'. As their story is told, it soon becomes apparent that these six characters from another realm, hide a very dark and deadly secret.
