Friends Event - Peter Lord: A History of Welsh Art in 12 or 13 pictures

Peter Lord, art historian and writer, explores the culture and history of Art in Wales through thirteen iconic pictures linked by a story that helped create and define a nation. His new book, ‘The Tradition: A New History of Welsh Art’, won the Wales Book of the Year Creative Non-Fiction Award 2017. He uncovers the exciting tradition of Welsh art, revealing the people and landscapes of the nation from the 1625 double portrait of Sir Thomas and Jane Mansel of Margam to its reimagining by Shani Rhys James in the 1990s. In his talk he will be looking for visual clues and stories reflecting Welsh identity, self and place.

This event is run in association with Parthian Books and is a joint lecture with Friends of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.

There is an admission charge of £5, with proceeds shared equally between the Art Fund and Friends.
