An Evening with Eddie Sinclair - Conservation and Polychromy at Exeter Cathedral
Eddie Sinclair began her conservation training at Exeter cathedral in 1979, working on the west front, training as a conservator/mason/carver. Alongside this, the interior roof bosses were scaffolded in successive winters, giving access to almost complete 14th century decoration. As well as these extraordinary architectural elements, she has had rare access to a number of important early liturgical furnishings, such as the bishop’s throne, and decorated chapels and monuments. She is today an accredited freelance conservator, juggling many different projects and clients, but frequently returning to the cathedral.
Her talk will look at aspects of her conservation work over almost forty years, along with a discussion of the materials and techniques used by the mediaeval craftsmen.
