As part of the Fest Norwood (West Norwood Arts Festival), South London Theatre invites you to:Make-Up & Hair Workshop
with Lily Ann Coleman
A part of our series of workshops that look at the varying aspects of theatre.
In our make-up and hair workshop we will cover:
- ageing make-up
- historical hair styles for women and facial hair styles for men
- wearing wigs
- tattoo coverage
- minor injuries and facial scars
We will also look at what should be in the basic kit for all actors, male and female.
Lily Ann completed a BA in Theatre Studies and Psychology at Brock University in Canada then trained as a Stage Manager including time at the Canadian Opera Company. She came to London to train at the Drama Studio London as an actor in 1984. After years of short courses and doing her own and fellow cast member’s makeup for various productions along with a strong interest in historical costume and millinery styles, she trained at the London School of Media Makeup in 2013.
She has worked on many short films but her main love is still theatre; especially the fringe and non-professional sector where money and resources are less expansive as this demands a different kind of creativity and lateral thinking. She has become especially sought after for adapting inexpensive wigs to various historical styles.
Through working on the play Rachel’s Café by Lucy Dancer where she designed the makeup and trained the actor to do his own transformation into a pre-op transgender woman each night while on tour; she has often found herself advising on similar transformations in the real world.
She is constantly still learning herself and loves passing on this knowledge.
